It is a fascinating fact that God gives the same measure of faith to every believer. (Romans 12:3) The more startling reality is that we may change our own measure of faith based on our personal interactions with the Word of God (Romans 10:17), and our consequential decisions in choosing how much we are going to walk by faith rather than in the natural. (2 Corinthians 5:7) So, can we measure faith? We should dearly care about this if we are to please our loving heavenly Father. (Hebrews 11:6)
There are many different kinds of faith referenced in the Word of God: Overcoming faith - 1 John 5:4; Shipwrecked faith - 1 Timothy 1:9; Unfeigned faith -1 Timothy 1:5; Perfect faith - James 2:22; Being full of faith - Acts 6:5; Rich faith - James 2:5; Strong faith - Romans 4:20; Weak faith - Romans 4:19; Growing faith - 2 Thessalonians 1:3; Head faith - John 20:25-29. Little faith - Matthew 14:31; Great faith - Matthew 8:10. If someone were to ask a close acquaintance to describe which type of faith best describes you, what would they say?
There's much to learn from the story of the Roman Centurion who, in simply speaking by understanding the concept of spiritual authority, was praised by Jesus for having the great faith to which we all aspire. (Matthew 8:5-13) In contrast, amazingly, Peter, the only human being, other than Jesus, ever recorded to have taken initiative and actually walked on water, was chided for having 'little faith' by Jesus. (Matt 14:22-33) There's clearly a relative scale used by Jesus in measuring faith. How does God view your faith?
