Tethered

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

We usually think of a tether as a restrictive measure, like a horse tied to a post to prevent an escape. In the technology world, 'tethering' has to do with connecting smart devices to the internet to give that device the power and capability it needs to function as designed. What about a spiritual tether?

.

An amazing, mature man of God recently spoke about this. By his own testimony, he's a man of prayer, spending literally hours each day praying, trusted by God, more comfortable in, and aware of the spiritual realm than the natural realm, super disciplined, and adept in seeing prayer assignments and burdens through to their conclusion. Very inspirational! Who doesn't want to be able to say that about themselves? And yet, this man explains how he knows when to withdraw from spiritual and prayer matters to 'tether' back into the Word of God. It's through the Word of God that he knows God, is strong in the ways of God, and understands himself better. (John 1:1-4) The Word is his tether.

A message preached recently at church, titled 'The Key to a Powerful Faith', was also about the Word of God in the context of the Word being certainly written, better yet spoken, and best of all, it is living. It is the Living Word that empowers our faith.! (Hebrews 4:12) And our tether is that same Living Word, God Himself! We are called to possess it to the fullest, make it ours, and embrace it at all costs. (John 14:23-26, 2 Timothy 3:16) This tether is our freedom! Our safety. Our highest and best. The Word of God is the unequivocal key to a deeper, more intimate walk with God. It's the key to understanding the spirit realm and how we can better serve. (John 6:63, 2 Timothy 2:15, )

When we fill up with the Word, with Light, and grow in obedience, lesser things are displaced. The Light dominates and our tether is strengthened! The measure of our obedience determines Gods power at work in us. (Ephesians 5:15-20) The degree by which we know His Word will seal our level of obedience, our intimacy with Him, and our ability to serve Him. Our tether strengthens us!

With a firm tether growing in our life each of us can become a believer of supernatural exploits, one who uses the Word in spiritual matters for God.. In mighty spiritual matters. In daily matters. We can understand more of the living nature of the Word. its powerful force, its authority. We can know the Word better because we know God who is the Word, and be propelled into more of the unique ways of God, There is no end to where this tether will lead us! (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

What are we tethered to? How closely have we tethered ourselves to the Word of God? It is our own decisions that will make or break us before Father God Almighty, our actions that will conceal Him or reveal Him to us. (John 14:23-26) Is it time to up our game?

More Reflection? 2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Peter 1:23, Psalm 119:105, 1 John 1:1, Matthew 4:4, 1 Peter 1:25, Proverbs 30:5, Romans 15:4, Isaiah 40:8, Hebrews 6:5, Isaiah 55:11, Revelation 19:15, Revelation 19:13, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Ephesians 6:17,Ephesians 5:26, 1 Corinthians 2:13, John 17:17, Psalm 119:18, Colossians 3.

Super Pic & Perceptive article. The Word is our Anchor (Tether!?). If our lives in Christ were like an ol' British wooden sailing vessel whose navy ruled the seas...then when the storms approach, we want to be anchored in safe harbor (The Secret Place...under His Shadow) so we don't get tossed against the rocks or driven & adrift aimlessly out to sea. Survive the storms in His presence so we can rejoin His fleet retooled to help fulfill the Great Commission....expand His Commonwealth. The Word of God is our anchor & our artillery in battle. "The weapons of our warfare are not carnal...but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (i.e. nightmares, addictions & DNA-inherited dysfunction & weaknesses).…
